The Giant Creature This Man Just Caught Is Impressive, But Ridiculously Creepy
"There's always a bigger fish," uttered the lazily written Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. While the line is one of my least favorite lines in cinematic history, the worst Jedi character in the entire franchise actually seems wise with today's big news.
Longtime TV nature expert and conservationist Jeff Corwin just took the world record by catching the biggest freshwater fish. The catch is a giant sting ray, which took almost two hours to reel in. It honestly looks like something pulled out of the planetary core of Naboo.

This sting ray, caught in Thailand's Maeklong River, is 8 feet wide, 14 feet tall, and almost 800 pounds.

I really don't like how super casual that guy is with the stinger.

The fish was so heavy, several men on the boat had to take turns reeling it in.

I'm not sure I've wanted anything bad enough to wait 2 hours for it. Especially not a fish.

It took seven people to lift the ray up and fully measure the beast, which was pregnant at the time.

Oh, good! Come spring, they'll be more of these monsters!

Perhaps another American TV animal expert will someday bring even more dudes together to catch an even bigger fish in the rivers of Thailand. For now, Jeff Corwin, this is your day. May the force be with you.
